Music is my greatest passion (not yet having met my wife
but I'm sure she'll understand). When I'm not making
my own, I like to help the great musicians
I've been lucky enough to know create and disseminate theirs.
When they're at their best, I enjoy it as much as when I'm
playing my own.
Producing/Engineering "Let It Breathe" by The Yolles Brothers
It's wonderful when good friends make great music. And it's great fun when they ask for help! Joe and Lawrence Yolles have made great tunes and performances in many different styles of music, including funk (no fakin' it), muscle rock, disco, classic American song, blues, pop, country-rock. This time around, Joe (with some help from Tim Lagershausen) has written a truly great album. The great challenge of this project was to do justice to these tunes. I'm satisfied we've done that. Take a listen to "Let It Breathe" over at Lively OX Records, and buy it at CD Baby. (January 2001 – December 2003)
Mastering "The Musics" by The Bottles
This project, in the works for some time now, is finally
nearing completion. And I'm quite proud of my role in it.
It is a collection of vibrant synthesizer instrumentals by
a great composer and friend (Charles Seymour, of SeymourMusic).
The major challenge was to create an enjoyable collection
from Charlie's best synth tunes, while drawing a fuller sound
from the original DAT masters using careful digital processing
in ProTools. (June 2001)
Remastering "It's A Foot" by The Senators From
Earth
Another challenge. This is a great funk record by more good
friends (the Yolles brothers & Declan Cooper) originally
produced, mastered to DAT and put out on cassette tape by
another talented good friend (Chris Brandt). The main challenge was
to create a full-sounding CD master from the meticulously
produced original DAT master. Using ProTools, I was able to
alleviate a few problems remaining in the otherwise excellent
original recording. For example, a noisy fader had introduced
spikes in the fade tail of one of the tunes. I was able to
"airbrush" the noise away. Another tune benefitted
from some careful manual de-essing. My trusty TC Gold Channel
was used to add add warmth. These recordings are among my
favorites. I really enjoyed bringing them a new life.
